Buzzy wanted a yard, breezes and open doors so he led us to our beautiful house on the mesa.
Buzzy (our dog - see pix) really did choose the next chapter.
He made it quite clear that although the loft was nicer than the pound he had had enough concrete for a lifetime and wanted a daddy, a yard, breezes, and open doors so he led us to our beautiful house on the mesa in Camarillo in Ventura County, halfway between L.A. and Santa Barbara, just a few miles inland from Malibu with a view of the western edge of the Santa Monica mountain range and glimpse of the Pacific coast.
Our house is a 1959 rancher; the previous owner was the daughter of one of the local founding ranch families. She renovated and added to the house around 2001 with a lot of found architectural elements from her family's local 1900s farmhouse. So we have a charming mashup of 1959 + 1900 + 2001 that was in a little disrepair.
At the height of her ownership of this house, it was the star of the local garden show circuit and it featured the highlights of her local antique store.
Now invaded by my rather eclectic art and furniture, the house is somewhat edgier than what she sold in her store. But it's definitely a house with many stories to tell.
